How to reconnect a broken steel wire rope?
2025-11-05

1.Core principle: Safety first. Self-operation is strictly prohibited

The strength cannot be guaranteed. The load-bearing capacity of steel wire ropes depends on the overall structure. Self-connection (such as knotting or simple binding) will damage the original structure, and the strength at the joint may be less than 30% of the original strength.

Lack of professional tools. Formal connections require professional equipment such as wire rope clamps, crimping joints, and braided tools. Individuals usually do not possess these tools and operational experience.

2. Correct handling approach: Select professional solutions based on different scenarios

According to the purpose and damage condition of the steel wire rope, the corresponding professional treatment method should be selected instead of connecting it by oneself.

Load-bearing/industrial use (such as hoisting, elevators) : Prioritize the replacement of brand-new steel wire ropes; If connection is required, it must be operated by qualified personnel using wire rope clamps or crimping joints, and it must comply with national standards such as GB/T 5976. After connection, a tensile test should also be conducted.

Non-load-bearing/temporary use (such as fences, towing light items) : Special joint clips that match the diameter of the steel wire rope can be used, or professional insertion methods can be adopted. However, this is only applicable to scenarios without safety risks, and the firmness of the joint needs to be checked regularly.

Severe damage (such as multiple strands breaking or deforming) : Scrapped directly. No further use or connection is allowed. Any repair cannot restore the original strength. Continuing to use it is an illegal operation.
